Music Pool

 Since the beginning of January, the Preschool children have been enjoying music and movement sessions with Alison from the Music Pool in Hereford.  We have invested some of our Early Years Pupil Premium (EYPP) funding in the sessions as we believe the experiences will impact on learning and development as music, movement and song can:

* improve children's confidence
* help with personal, social, emotional and creative development
* increase language and numeracy skills
* refine listening skills as children notice changes in tempo or pitch
* improve balance, coordination, and rhythm through dance and movement activities
* improve small motor skills‐learning finger plays and playing musical instruments
* develop large motor skills

Here are some photos from our sessions:

We begin by seeing if we have our voices ready.  This could be our singing, whispering, grumpy, squeaky or thinking voice.  The children enjoy telling Alison which voice they have today!

We all stand up to sing 'If You're Happy and You Know It' with the children deciding which actions we do.  They have to wait for Alison to call their name before they answer.

"Cuckoo, cherry tree, catch the ball and roll it to me."  The children wait with anticipation as they wait for their name to be called so they can catch the ball and roll it back.

The children enjoy using the claves but have to listen carefully to Alison's instructions.  We wait to see when we can pick them up and tap them in time to the music.  It's very tempting to pick them up whenever we want to but we try to listen really hard.

Great listening!

We can tap them in the sky and tap them on the ground

The children take it in turns to have a ride on the parachute, waiting and listening for their name to be called and joining in with the words and actions.

We listen carefully to Alison so we know when we can move the parachute and which direction.

We sang Zoom, Zoom, Zoom and lifted the parachute to the moon.  Great singing!

We particularly enjoy using the scarves.  Alison plays music and we have to move as instructed which could include tip toeing like a ballerina.  We also swing the scarves like we're rocking the baby - great for gross motor development!

We pass around the scrunchie, making the 'buttons' wander.  Which child will end up with which button?  There's much anticipation as the children join in with the songs, listening for Alison to ask them which button they have and they sing back their reply.
