Rocket Science Experiment

We are currently taking part in a 'Rocket Science' experiment which is running in partnership between the Royal Horticultural Society and the UK Space Agency.

On September 2nd last year, two kilograms of rocket seed blasted off into space from Baikonur in Kazakhstan.  They travelled on board the Soyuz 44S rocket on their way to the International Space Station where they would be stored in microgravity.  Having spent six months on board the ISS with our own British Astronaut, Tim Peake, the seeds made their way back down to Earth with Scott Kelly on 2nd March.

We began the Rocket Science experiment on 12th April, having received the information pack and two packs of seeds during the Easter holidays.  Each pack contained 100 seeds, with one pack having been in space whilst the other remained on Earth - we don't know which is which so are excited to monitor the growth, observing any differences.  Over the next 35 days, the children will be waiting for the first shoots to appear, measuring the growth and making comparisons which will be uploaded to a national database.  The findings will be analysed and published for everyone to see.
