Around the World

This week and last week, we have been travelling all around the world at Busy Bees which has been exhausting but plenty of fun! Each day, we have been boarding an 'aeroplane' ready to travel to a different country for the day. We find the country on the globe, research facts in books and using the iPads and consider what else we would like to know. Jodie has been our air hostess and has been appropriately dressed for the role which has really amused the children. Each day, children are chosen to act out the role of pilot, co-pilot and air hostess and embrace this with confidence and enthusiasm, giving directions to others, counting the other children on and off the aeroplane and shaking hands after the flight.

Last week, some of our highlights were visiting Spain were we had a go at flamenco dancing and made fans. We also travelled to Poland where we tried Polish foods and looked at Polish emblems and currency. The children particularly enjoyed a walk to the Polish shop in Ledbury which allowed them the opportunity to look at the goods on sale and thinking about their English comparison. We noticed the numbers and letters on display in the shop and used coins to pay for the things we purchased.

Italy was also a highlight, especially making pizzas and listening to opera music.

This week, our travels have begun again and yesterday we were in America so made American flag biscuits. Today, our journey has taken us to Brazil so we are listening to Carnival music and making headdresses. Our longest journey will be on Thursday when we visit Australia where we will explore the sounds of didgeridoos, use brown play dough to make barbecue foods and make boomerangs.

India was a favourite, especially as the children had such a fantastic go at Bollywood dancing - we were all so impressed.

We flew back to this country ready for the Great British Bake Off on Friday.

The focus on countries has really sparked the children's imaginations, with many of them eager to share the facts they have learned with their parents or find out their own at home, sharing them with us the next day. Children's learning has been extended as we read books from other countries, think about languages, writing and numbers and try different foods.
